F.R.E.D.

Thank you to all the parents who attended our F.R.E.D launch. FRED (Fathers Reading Every Day) is a four week project aimed at families in Reception Class to get more fathers and father figures (granddads, uncles, step dads, big brothers etc) involved in reading with their children. We know that the more people who show children it is fun to read and who show an interest in children reading then the better the child becomes at reading. Please ask Mr MacKinnon if you have any questions about the project.

Book of the Month!

This week we launched our first Book of the Month books. Each month we will be selecting a few different titles, including classics, current favourites and new reads, to be shared and discussed throughout the school. You might be able to spot a theme in our book choices each month!

This month’s books are:

Hairy Maclary by Lynley Dodd
Harry The Dirty Dog by Gene Zion
Black Dog by Levi Pinfold
The Wolves Of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken

Look out for your children bringing one or two home to share with you. See if you can spot our special Book of the Month stickers on their covers!

If there is a particular book that you would like to see as one of our Book of the Month books, please let us know by leaving a reply.

Nosy Crow help us to love reading!

Last Tuesday, as part of our I ♥ Reading celebrations, we welcomed Kate Wilson from Nosy Crow publishers [www.nosycrow.com]. Kate told us all about the job of a children’s book published and told us all about one of our favourite illustrators – Axel Scheffler – who illustrated The Gruffalo. We were lucky enough to see some of the beautiful original hand-drawn artworks from the books! Kate read some of Axel Scheffler’s more recent stories – Pip and Posy – to KS1 and left us with lots of books to add to our reading corners.

As Nosy Crow are our neighbours (their office is on Lant Street!), we look forward to working with Kate and her team again in the future. Thank you, Kate!

As you enjoy the photos of Kate and some of the books our children love, we have one final challenge for you. Can you spot another book by Nosy Crow publishers?
