Early Years Nativity

Well done to all our small performers… the angels, the kings, the hospital staff, the welcomers, the robots, the aliens, the toys, the shepherds, the princesses, superheroes, the horse, Joseph and Mary!

You all did a brilliant job of re- creating the story of Mary, Joseph and her baby but set in our community with perhaps a little bit of Christmas ‘artistic license’ thrown in! We hope all the mums, dads and families enjoyed the creativity of their children as much as we did!

Shakespeare Schools’ Festival

On Tuesday night, 25 Year 4 and 5 children performed their version of “Macbeth” at the The Albany theatre in Deptford. Their performance was one of over 1000 Shakespeare plays being performed all over the country and it was spectacular! The children have worked with Miss Alcock for several months and also received a specialist introduction from Jack – our acting friend from Misrule Theatre company. The production was a fantastic display of team work and concentration as the children marched, rolled and danced their way through an ensemble performance. We were very proud of everyone who took part and we’re already thinking about next year’s show!

The Big Dickens’ Draw

Thank you to everyone who joined us for The Big Dickens Draw on Wednesday. We were thrilled to see so many keen artists drawing with such big smiles on their faces and an unstoppable enthusiasm!

The noise was deafening in the middle hall with the buzz of drawing and building construction. The hall was bursting at the seams with children and adults all eager to find their road on the map and start building their houses out of recycled materials. We saw paddling pools, roof terraces, egg box trees in Mint Street park, your own homes complete with windows showing you inside, the Tate Modern and a very shiny Shard!

Downstairs in Artful Dodger, children couldn’t resist the chance to draw on the walls and a colourful and creative underwater landscape was created by our very talented children.

In our classrooms, children also enjoyed drawing to different types of music – from Katy Perry in Oliver class to Jazz Club in Nickleby, Rockabilly in Havisham to Reggae in Bumble! Ivan in Little Dorrit drew a fantastic picture to Katy Perry and said “This is me jumping, that’s how the music makes me feel” while children from Peggotty drew Texas cowboy shoot outs at dusk, inspired by the Rockabilly music.

Charles Dickens, your creativity and imaginations are incredible!

Year 6 Show – The Acme Thunderer

Congratulations to Year 6 for a fantastic Year 6 Show. Building upon their learning about the 1st and 2nd World Wars, the children have worked very hard alongside their director Ms Alcock and musician in residence Pete Letanka to not only develop an exciting piece of theatre about the experiences of children in wartime London but also to compose and perform accompanying songs and overtures. All in all it was the perfect emotional highlight for an outstanding creative Year 6 team of children! Well done to all of you. Thank you to al the adults involved in making the show happen, including parents who donated costumes and joined us for the performances. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did!

The Ugly Bug Ball in Trotwood

The Trotwood children have been learning about mini-beasts and today their learning was celebrated and enhanced with dressing up as mini-beasts, making and more importantly eating ‘bug food’ and dancing like no caterpillars, ladybirds or indeed spiders have managed to dance before!

Its never too late for some Easter bonnet photos

On the last day of term, hundreds of pupils decorated their Easter Bonnets with a range of found and recycled materials. As promised, here are the many many photographs of everyone (who stood still long enough to have their picture taken) in Key Stage 1 and Early Years- we hope we haven’t missed anyone out?
