Friday in Paris – visiting our link school!

Today children from year 5 and 6, on our trip to Paris, visited our link school in Paris – Ecole Saint Charles in 15th Arrondissement. They met penpals, shared school experiences, lunch and playtime! They travelled via Metro – it will be interesting to see how the children compare life in Paris to London

Winston Nzinga – the art of oral story telling from Africa and the Caribbean

Today Winston Nzinga visited the school to enrich the Year 3 and 4 project on Africa. He also spent the morning with Years 1&2, reception and nursery classes, teaching them a wide range of songs and musical accompaniment. He certainly brought the sunshine with him today and one nursery child asked ‘can that man come back tomorrow’ . Sadly, no, but if your child loved his songs, there is a CD you can buy from his website

http://www.spudandyam.co.uk/

Winston is an amazing percussionist and storyteller from the Caribbean who filled the children’s eyes and ears with a blend of traditional and contemporary storytelling with music, riddle, call and response and song using African-Caribbean drumming and percussion. The year 3 and 4 classes learnt how simple story telling about animals can be used to explain quite complex issues in friendships. The younger children enthusiastically joined in long songs based on rhyme and telling the story of different folkloric animals.

Hello From Mr Bailey In Montreal – look who he has found….

Hello everyone at Charles Dickens – I hope you are keeping well!

Imagine my surprise during a visit to a very informative museum in Montreal, called the Chateau Ramezay, when I spotted this bust of a familiar person! And I thought I was the first person from Charles Dickens Primary to make it to Montreal…..

Love from Mr Bailey

Dolls from Malawi

Here is a doll Ms Roberts brought back from Malawi – what name could we give her?

Ms Roberts arrived back from Malawi yesterday with lots of photos and experiences to share with us all.
Today, in assembly, Ms Roberts told us all about the weather in Malawi – the tropical storms and the heat!
We learnt what she ate – lots of fresh fruit, cassava and stews. Ms Roberts told us how the population of Malawi was very young – very different to this country!

Ms Roberts asked all the children to think of questions they wanted to know about Iponga School and pupils – what would you like to know?

News from Ms Roberts in Malawi

“I had an amazing time in Iponga Primary – I was made to feel so welcome! They celebrated by birthday with songs and poems. I had a football and netball match in my honour and have hundreds of photos, videos and letters to share with everyone at Charles Dickens Primary School! Sadly I still have no phone signal so you will all have to wait until I get back to school to see the photos. Today I  met back up with the other teachers that I traveled with and we are doing some exploring.  Hope you are all enjoying your half term.  Love Ms Roberts”
