French Day!


The school celebrated Bastille day on Wednesday (a few days late)!

Little Dorrit and Gargery learnt about the Eiffel Tower and the famous Bastille Day firework which happens there every year. They had a chance to paint their own Eiffel Tower’s firework and take it home! Reception children also followed the adventures of Barnaby bear who travels to Paris and discovered with him, some of the monuments.

The year 1 and 2 children learnt about Paris with Barnaby bear and wrote postcards “from Paris”! They also learnt about the Eiffel Tower and its famous firework and designed their own firework. Finally, they did a workshop called “Knowing me Knowing you” discovering a few differences between life in France and England, especially about going to school. Children designed beautiful posters about these similarities and differences in pairs!

The year 3 and 4 children rotated on 4 workshops: a workshop on France’s geography: mountains, rivers, cities but also a really fun water-tasting session! Miss Spears held a workshop on the origins of Bastille Day itself, children learnt about “Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité” and made lovely rosettes. Ms Whitlock held a workshop on the Eiffel Tower where children played a memory game, learning facts about the Tower and the famous Bastille Day firework, which happens there every year. Later on, designing their own Eiffel Tower firework! Finally, the year 3 and 4 children also got to discover the artist Matisse and make their own cut outs with Miss Jacobs.

The year 5 and 6 children also rotated on 4 workshops: a perfume workshop, where they learnt about perfume history and got to do some perfume testing, an Eiffel Tower building challenge workshop where children designed and built Eiffel Tower out of newspaper. Children also had a workshop on the artist Matisse and made their own cut outs. Finally, they discovered the lives of 6 famous French people and designed beautiful posters presenting them.

All children got to play Boule on the rooftop and visit the beautiful Egyptian museum created by the children of years 3 and 4.
