Year 5/6 Royal Observatory!

The year 5 and 6 children visited the Royal observatory. They were amazed at the amazing telescope that is housed inside the purpose built dome.

The 28-inch Greenwich refracting telescope is the largest of its kind in the UK and the seventh largest in the world. Completed in 1893, it was commissioned in 1885 by William Christie, Astronomer Royal between 1881 and 1911.

It was built to research double star systems and remained in use until the late 1960s. With the recent addition of a computer-aided guidance system and CCD camera, it continues to work as an excellent visual aid to observing the night sky.

Year 6 Show – Hansel and Gretel

On Friday, the children in Year 6 performed in the Year 6 show. In the imaginative retelling of the classic tale, the audience were taken on a mystical, whirlwind adventure. There were many, many highlights including musical interludes, spoken performances, visual humour and set design! Well done to everyone who took part on the night and in the preparation and build up to the special day.

Here are some shots from the show:

Music Assembly

WOW – today the school was treated to two superb performances by the choir, guitar and ukulele clubs! They played and sung wonderfully in front of Key Stages 1, Key Stage 2 and Early Years. Both songs were instantly recognised by the children who battled hard against the urge to sing along!

Luckily, we got to sing along at the end which sounded beautiful! Well done to all of the singers, musicians and adults involved. It was an absolute delight!

The Barnaby Class Odyssey

Last week, Barnaby Class presented a wonderful assembly to the rest of the school. We all crammed ourselves into the amphitheater which was the top hall to watch a show!

Charles Dickens was under attack from a host of Greek monsters, sent to get revenge on the school by Ariadne and Calista (Amina and Olivia) but luckily Ms Buchanan (Riham) recruited a band of heroes to save the day. Just in time, Chronos (Joel) turned up to adjudicate a spelling bee and a shape quiz which decided the fate of the school.

A special mention must also go to Precious’s amazing Medusa outfit and to Toni’s cameo as little-known Greek beast Octodeath!
