Response to Major Incident in London Bridge Area

Dear Parent/Carer,

As you are likely to have seen in the news, there was a major incident in London Bridge and Borough Market overnight. I know that many of you will have been very distressed by this incident, especially as it has happened so close to us. Metropolitan Police have issued a statement to reassure the incident is concluded and should be your first point of reference for further information

We have not, as yet, received any information that would indicate anyone connected with the school has been caught up in either events or the response. Our thoughts are with those who were and we will update you if and when there is more information about how to provide support. For anyone concerned there is a Casualty Bureau line on 0800 0961 233.

Charles Dickens Primary School is closed on Monday for our inset day. We intend to reopen as normal on Tuesday and look forward to ensuring that nothing about this incident will deflect our children and staff from completing an exceptional year of achievement.

We expect some children will be worried following last night’s incident. Adults in school will continue to help all the children manage any anxiety as and when children share their concerns or show signs of being worried, following the NSPCC advice which can be found here

The work of RULER is used to help children recognise their feelings and move toward more positive thoughts. Mr Eggleton will outline in Friday’s newsletter how you can use the ‘mood meter’ at home

We will continue to be proud of our diverse school community and the area we serve.  We continue to learn about and celebrate our religious and cultural differences across the school.

We continue to focus on good thoughts and encouraging our children to get involved in charities and initiatives that have a positive effect across the world.

I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday.

Mrs. Cassie Buchanan,

Headteacher
