Materials scientist Mark Miodownik entertained and educated the whole of Key Stage 1 this week with an assembly about the properties of different materials. Mark showed us how a banana can be frozen in liquid nitrogen and then used as a hammer! How liquids can be controlled by magnets, and how some metals are so hard that even driving a steam roller over them won’t make a scratch. The children were enthralled by the presentation and left inspired to learn more. A massive thank you to Mark for giving up his time to share his knowledge and love of science.
