Cross Country Triumphs

Year 5 and 6 faced the elements in Southwark Park last Thursday to compete in the Borough Cross Country competition. Children from local schools bundled their clothes into bags, braced themselves against the blustery wind and then competed around two laps of the park.

The race was around one and a  half miles long and all our competitors made it around at their own pace with some children achieving brilliant results. In the Year 6 Girls (our top girl in 10th) we came 7th and the Year 6 Boys (individual places of 5th and 10th)came  2nd giving us a placing of  3rd in Year 6 overall. In Year 5 the results were even better with the boys in 2nd (individuals in 2nd and 7th places) and the girls were 1st (with Charles Dickens taking 1st,2nd,3rd and 6th in the top ten!). Overall in the Year 5 competition we came first!

To fully understand their triumph, the whole school joined them in a slow motion run whilst listening to the ‘Chariots of Fire’ soundtrack. Congratulations to all the runners and especially to the medal winners in the top ten individual places.
