Year 3 Virtual School

Daily Message

Happy Monday Year 3! Do you know where the word ‘Monday’ comes from? The Romans in Britain called it ‘Dies Lunae’ (‘Day of the Moon’) and then the Anglo-Saxons invaded Britain and translated it to ‘Monandaeg’ (‘The Moon’s Day’). Say ‘Monandaeg’ out loud – it does sound a little bit like ‘Monday’, doesn’t it? We’ve already learnt about the Romans in Britain and, after half term, we will be learning about the Anglo-Saxon invasion in History, so this is a little taster!

Speaking of History, well done to everyone who has made their time capsule front covers! They are looking lovely. If you haven’t had time yet, you can complete yours this week. The task this week is to make a page explaining who you are, what you like doing and what you want to be when you’re older. You will then put this page inside your time capsule box to remember what you were like in May 2020. Look at the History section below to watch the video.

Someone who now gets to say she’s eight years old on her time capsule sheet is Isabel in Nickleby! It was her birthday yesterday. Happy birthday Isabel! How did you celebrate? Please send us some photos!

Today, you are doing English (Guided Reading), Maths (fractions), Science (plants) and Dance with Delene. What a way to start the week! Keep your emails, photos and videos coming – we love seeing that brilliant work you’re doing at home.

Daily Message

Hello Year 3 and happy Thursday! As you’ll know, there is no virtual school tomorrow as it’s a bank holiday. This bank holiday marks the 75th anniversary of VE day (Victory in Europe day), when many countries around the world including the UK remember and celebrate the end of World War II, on 8 May 1945.

Today, you are doing English (news reports – we have prepared two lesson videos for you, so please make sure you work through both of them before next week), Maths (fractions), French (colours), R.E (Islamic art) and Yoga. Enjoy and make sure you keep sending us photos of your completed work!

We hope you enjoy your long weekend and want to wish a very special birthday to Oscar and Jamal who both have birthdays coming up. We hope you both have a lovely time celebrating!

You’ve got two chapters of Granny Magic today to keep you going over the bank holiday weekend! Click here for Chapter 19, and here for Chapter 20:

Today, we’ve made two lesson videos for you, as the bank holiday means there is no virtual school tomorrow. You are welcome to watch and complete these lessons either together or at different times as you like, but please do complete them both before next week.

In our first lesson, you are looking at a timeline of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius to help you write your own chronological report. Click here for the lesson.

In our second lesson, you are watching an interview with a Pompeii survivor we know well (complete with the slight delay on the recording that we often see in distance interviews on the news!), then adding a paragraph including quotes to your news report about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
