Year 3 Virtual School

Daily Message

We hope you all had fun and relaxing long weekends and are feeling ready for another week of action packed learning! We’re particularly excited about the new English unit which you’re starting tomorrow – writing your own fun news reports!

As you all know, reading is one of your teachers’ favourite pastimes and we want to know what you’ve been reading and where! Send us a photo of you in your favourite reading place (the sillier the better!) and we will share them with the rest of Year 3. Here are your teachers in their favourite reading nooks. We also want to know what you’re reading at the moment and which books you’d recommend to the other children in the year – send us an email and let us know.

This week’s time capsule task is to draw around the hands of the people you live with, then cut them out and decorate them with images which symbolise their experience of lockdown. Look in the History section for the video with instructions. Ms Spears and her sister have made beautiful hands!

The long weekend saw two very special birthdays – happy birthday Oscar and Jamal! What did you do to celebrate? We hope you had a brilliant time whatever you got up to.

Today, you are doing English (Guided Reading), Maths (fractions), Science (plants) and Dance with Delene. What a way to start the week! Keep your emails, photos and videos coming – we love seeing the brilliant work you’re doing at home.

Daily Message

Hello Year 3 and welcome to another day of virtual school! It is a very special day today – it’s Salma’s birthday! Happy birthday Salma, we hope you have a lovely time celebrating!

Today, you are doing English (starting to write your own fun news reports on life in lockdown!), spelling, Maths (fractions), Geography (learning about how mountains are formed) and Music. Enjoy and make sure you keep sending us photos of your completed work!

Today we are also starting to use a website called live worksheets. On this website, you’ll find worksheets to complete based on Maths topics the children have already been taught. This will help the Year 3 teachers to identify any gaps in understanding which may need to be revisited during a lesson. It would be really helpful if the children could complete these worksheets independently, so that we can then tailor our teaching to the children’s needs. Each new worksheet will be accessible from Tuesday morning and remain open until 4pm on Thursday. Here is a video made by Mr Bakas which explains how to use the live worksheets.

See the maths section for today’s maths live worksheet.

Daily Message

Welcome to Fitness Friday! Since we’re learning all about mountains, we thought it was time for Year 3 to take on a mountain climbing challenge! The British Heart Foundation is encouraging people to climb the stairs (very good for your heart) and has worked out that Ben Nevis is equivalent to climbing 587 flights of stairs. We think that if we work together, Year 3 can conquer Ben Nevis and put our (imaginary) flag at the top!

Start counting every time you go up or down a flight of stairs (about 15 steps) and let us know how many flights you climb in the next week. Your teachers will keep a tally of the total and see if we can make those 587 flights or more. Ms Jacobs has 3 flights of stairs up to her flat and she is planning to run up and down them several times, twice a day! We think it will help if you put on your mountaineering gear like you did two weeks ago… You can do it Year 3!

We LOVED seeing the pictures of your favourite places to read! Check out the brilliant picture. We’re so proud of all of you who are reading regularly. We were also very happy to receive your book recommendations – I will be sharing these on Monday!

Happy birthday weekends to Orchid and Jules! We hope you both have a wonderful time celebrating! Let us know what you get up to.

Today is English, Maths, Wellbeing and RE. Have a wonderful weekend when the time comes!
