QUIZ NIGHT!

The Quiz Night postponed in December will now be on Thursday 9th February between 6.30 and 8.30pm.

Tickets are £2 and will be on sale in the school playground.  You can also buy tickets on the door (£3). There will be a special ‘ Charles Dickens’ round and  you can form a team in advance or just come along and make/join a team on the night.

We will be selling nibbles  and drinks on the night.

This event will be for the grown ups only. It would be great to see you there to join in the fun and try and beat the teachers!

Children in Need – part 2 (cakes, face paints and Pudsey)

Children in Need continued today with lots of after- school fun.

Mr Mackinnon and Mrs Taylor painted lots and lots of faces. Lots of amazing parents made beautiful cakes and biscuits ( the pictures don’t do them justice). We ate more cakes here at officedickens than we planned! Pudsey was won by Ms Carver in the ‘guess Pudsey’s favourite food – Ms Carver has given Pudsey to Trotwood class. We sold over 100 CDs of our version of ‘teardrop’. We all drank gorgeous hot chocolate and coffee, kindly donated by Starbucks.

A fabulous community afternoon and yet another reminder of how wonderful our parents and staff are, here at Charles Dickens. Thank you to everyone who baked, manned a stall, collected coffee, sold CDs, sponsored a child in their Spelling Bee – we raised nearly £1000 for Children in Need and the money is still coming in.

Special thanks to Ms Gemmell and the parents and community team for pulling everything together and working so hard to create a great event.

Children in Need Part 1 – Mr Mackinnon’s beard

Every Children in Need we try to come up with inventive ways to raise money. One such idea this year was that Mr Mackinnon would grow a beard for 2 months. Given that Mr Mackinnon is usually very smart, the children though this would be an excellent idea and  Mr Mackinnon reluctantly agreed.

We have been collecting lots of sponsorship for the beard growing and Mr Mackinnon has been sporting a rather terrible beard ( we think he looks like a fisherman) until…..today!

Today was the great shaving day and along came the barber to shave off the beard, in front of an excited audience of children. However there was a twist…all the pupils in the school had voted that Mr Mackinnon was not to have the beard completely shaved off but instead it was to be styled into an interesting moustache.

Thank you to Mr Mackinnon and all the people who sponsored him. The BBC came to film it for Friday’s televised Children in Need event so look out for us!

On a quick note , we have recorded our own version of the children in need song ‘teardrop’ – CDs of our song will be available in the playground for a small donation on Friday afternoon when there will also be a cake sale and other stalls – yum yum!

The Big Draw

Today saw our first Big Draw – an open drawing and mark making celebration for all our pupils and their families.
A dull November afternoon in the playground was soon flooded with the colours of autumn – fireworks, pumpkins, squashes, apples, dark skies and bright lights were drawn all over the playground and walls by everyone from tiny children to unsuspecting grandparents – a wonderful happy experience and a realisation we are blessed with so many talented creative families who lead these events. Thank you to you all.
