Stars of the Week, Librarians and Gold Reading Certificates

Congratulations to our stars and friends of the week! This week’s winners really impressed their teachers with their wonderful attitude to learning. What will you do this week to try and win? A big well done to our very responsible librarians who have been chosen to help out in the library at lunch times. Also many congratulations to our gold reading certificate recipients in key stage two. They each win an impressive 50 house points!

Year 6 Assembly – A Canterbury Tale

A huge well done to everyone in Year 6 for performing a joyful, highly educational assembly today. Year 6 recently spent a week on a farm in Gloucestershire where, in their spare time, they wrote and practiced this assembly. Parents and children were treated to rapping, dancing, singing and an amusing history of St Thomas à Becket – all performed in wellington boots of course! There was even a nod to the Canterbury Tales. Congratulations to Mr. Windle, Mr. Bakis, Mrs. Taylor and of course all the children in Year 6.

Cultural Friday Assembly – Keith Haring

Every Friday morning the children at Charles Dickens Primary School have been enjoying a series of cultural assemblies. Last Friday Mr. Young shared his knowledge and love of the art of Keith Haring. During the assembly the children produced their own sketch in the style of the pioneering American artist. Our own head teacher even modelled for the children!

Havisham Class Assembly

Congratulations to everyone in Havisham Class for delivering a highly entertaining assembly on the themes of perseverance, empathy and kindness. The children performed their lines with real confidence, sang with joy, and acted with panache. The audience were treated to a reworking of Michael Jackson’s ‘Man in the Mirror’ and the children even displayed their beautiful artwork depicting acts of kindness they had experienced from classmates. Very well done to the children and to Miss Khan for a wonderful celebration of learning.
