Spring Term Music Concert – Trumpeters Herald The Spring With Jazz!

Thank you to all our musicians for a wonderful music treat yesterday afternoon when many of our beginners performed in the Spring Term Music Concert. The older pupils who have been learning for some time also treated us to their ensemble work.

Camp Out! Were you there? It was glorious!

There were tents as far as the eye could see and children running barefoot across the fields playing football. Saturday was a warm summer evening and the perfect weather for the first PTA Camp Out. Lots and lots of families came together to camp, some for the very first time. Following the efforts to put up tents, ignite barbecues and pump up beds, everyone could relax and the children had the sort of wonderful carefree evening that is difficult to imagine in London; toasting marshmellows, helping to make a fire, running freely, building dens and sitting with their friends in the semi darkness sharing food.

If you didn’t make it this year, definitely go next year – we will be there! Thank you so much to Jessica Evershed, PTA chair for organising it!

Animate Orchestra – A great opportunity for our children!

Animate orchestra spend two days making some fantastic music from scratch with an ensemble of 36 young instrumentalists from Southwark, including traditional orchestral instruments, guitars, drum kits and laptops!

Our next course in Southwark takes place on Monday 18th & Tuesday 19th February 2013, at Walworth Academy

This course is open to all young instrumentalists years 5 – 8 living or going to school in the London Borough of Southwark. Any instrument can join (including young people who are interested in music technology), and Animate Orchestra is open players of any ability.

Animate Orchestra is a partnership project between Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, The London Philharmonic Orchestra and Lambeth and Southwark Music Services. It is a young person’s Orchestra for the 21st Century which gives young people a voice to create their own music in a unique ensemble. You can watch a video about the activities we do here: http://animateorchestra.org.uk/what-is-animate-orchestra/

The 2 day course costs only £16 (£5 if eligible for free school meals) and we hope this means that any young person in the Borough is able to participate.

Online application is available at www.animateorchestra.org.uk/booking-information.

The closing date for applications is Monday 4th February

A huge welcome awaits all local toddlers at our Under 5s morning – Saturday 6th October 10.30am – 12.00pm

We know that not everyone can manage to come and visit our school for our Tuesday school tours so we are having an ‘open day’ next Saturday 6th October for local young children and their families who want to find out more about our school.

You will have an opportunity to visit the foundation stage classrooms and the eco garden, plus have a chance to meet teachers and the Head of School. Most importantly, we hope the children will have lots of fun and maybe make some new friends.

Entry will be via the Lant Street playground gates.

See you all there and don’t forget to tell your friends!
