On Tuesday, Year Six went on a very important trip to the Old Kent Road Fire station, where they took part in a “Junior Citizenship” course run by Transport for London. The children were able to take part in a number of activities and discussions, all aiming to make the children more independent, ready for their transition to secondary school. Micawber and Peggotty classes learnt all about bus and tube etiquette; what to do in the event of a fire; the dangers of knife crime and how to be safe on their bikes, amongst other life skills. It is hard to believe that our pupils will soon be splitting up and going to many different secondary schools around Southwark and other parts of London and opportunities like this are very important so that they are ready to go it alone!
