It was a happy concidence that the blazing and somewhat unseasonal sunshine coincided with Gargery and Little Dorrit classes finally being able to enjoy their first day outside in the new canopied play area on the Lant Street Playground. It was wonderful to see some of our youngest children being ‘busy’ outside building ‘castles’, digging for ‘treasure’ in the sandpits and fishing for the letters appearing in their name in the water trays.
Years 5 and 6 visited the Science Museum to support their topic on The Solar System – make sure you take a look at the photographs on their class blogs. The children returned to school buzzing with excitement and lots of career plans involving astronomy.
Years 3 and 4 have been impressing us with their new found knowledge about ‘story starters’ , especially as they used classic novels as the basis for this learning . The effectiveness of the beginning of Jane Eyre has been much discussed by our 7 and 8 year olds but has also sparked debate in the staffroom as to our favourite Bronte sisters’ novel.
Ironically, given this ‘heatwave’, years 1 and 2 have been focusing on The Polar Regions for their topic. However, we have been reliably informed by a confident Year 1 pupil, that ‘there is a summer time in the Arctic’.
