Robotics with The Imperial College, London

With funding from The Mercers’ Company, Year 5 and 6 children have been lucky enough to experience a whole day of learning with The Imperial College London. The focus was robotics and encouraging children to use their science, technology and maths skills to build and program robots  – the same robots used on the undergraduate degree course!

As you will see from the photographs, this was more than Robot Wars – children worked in teams and used computer programming and lots of maths to successfully navigate a robot around a course. There were high levels of intense concentration and excitement surrounding mathematical programming amongst our pupils which was such a pleasure to see.

The Mercers’ company have also supported the school in buying 15 Mindstorm Lego Robots which our Robotics club have been busy building and mastering. Next term, year 5 and 6 will be teaching the younger children how to program the robots – isn’t the future exciting!
