Maths
Play a hiding game with a number of objects in a box.
Ask your child to run around the house and collect 10 things to place in a box.
Count 10 objects into a box. (You can do this with different amounts of objects such as five spoons, three pegs and two cuddly toys)
Get your child to close their eyes, whilst you remove different amounts of objects from the box.
Then empty the box and count how many objects are left in the box.
Remind children there will always be 10 objects altogether.
Ask the children to see if they are able to guess how many objects you have hidden?
Vocabulary
If I have 6, one more is 7. If I have one less I’ll have 5.
We have also added a link to help with some ideas you can also try.
Click here for another great maths game to play together
There are also some lovely ideas on the cbeebies website to try.
ENJOY!

In Trotwood we have been learning about water in its many forms.
The book we plan to use this week is The Snail And The Whale by Julia Donaldson.
You can access this on BBC IPlayer. Click here.
There is also a youtube video of Mrs Harris reading the story.
Read or watch the story together and then see if you can think of another adventure for the snail and the whale to go on.
Which characters will they meet?
Where will they go?
How will they get there?
You could then make your story into a book or even act it out together as a family at home.
It will be fantastic to see all your stories.

Exploring the number 10.
Today Mrs Ahad has made a great video for you to watch. Explaining 10.
Have a look and play the games at home. If you haven’t got a die, then that is fine.
Use your fingers to demonstrate how many objects your child needs to collect.
Once you have watched the video and played the game why not remember to sing our song of the week Once I caught a fish alive!
Below is a poster with the words to the song.
See if you can sing it with someone at home. You can teach someone at home the song.
You may also like to make your own number line to help you sing the song.
Here is a great idea I found online. This is a great way to make a number line with your child at home.

Morning.
Now remember yesterday we had fun reading the snail and the whale?
Today we thought you may like to make your own information books.
Watch the BBC blue planet. You may wish to watch 10 minutes and then encourage your child to draw a picture of the animal they are interested in.
Once they have drawn a picture ask them to recall what they can remember. Write down what your child says. Encourage them to write with you.
The children have watched small clips from blue planet in school.
They became fascinated by the sea cucumber. Show them the attached picture and ask them;
How many arms does a sea cucumber have?
Answer: 10
What does the sea cumcumber eat?
Answer: Star fish eggs
Now you have had fun exploring under the sea. Mrs Lambert has been having loads of fun making you an excellent video on phonics.

Exploring the number 10.
Mrs Lambert has made a great video showing you a lovely game you can play together. She has given some great tips to help your child count, like only saying the next number when you hear the peg drop on the tray.
Have fun and here is the link.
Tomorrow Miss Gordon will be sharing her number session with you all.
We have received some lovely emails of your children at home please share more with us. We are waiting to see all your amazing fun at home.
English
In the story of The snail and the whale, the snail writes a message on the chalkboard.
Today see if you can write a message using different media to write with. A great way to get children to write is to allow them to mark make with different materials.
Why not try a salt tray. This link will take you to a great blogger who can explain how to make and use a salt tray with your child.
Dont worry if you haven’t got salt. You could use flour, cornflour, and sugar at a push, but that could get sticky!
Here are some ideas from Mrs Harris for you to try!!
The first link shows you some lovely ways to use the salt/flour trays.
This link shows how to extend the flour tray and use it as a fun finger gym activity.
Ocean egg boxes.
Mrs Harris has made a short video of ideas for you to help make your ocean egg box.
You can use anything around the house. We used socks, silver foil, envelopes and cling film.
We are looking forward to seeing all your creations!

Maths
Using numbers in everything we do.
In the videos today Miss Gordon is using numbers to help her to make a cake and to lay the table.
How many knives and forks does Miss Gordon need for dinner?
How many people live in Miss Gordon’s house?
How many ingredients will go into Miss Gordon’s cake?
During the day think about how often you use number to carry out everyday tasks.
Can you help lay the table for lunch? How many knives and forks do you need?
How many pieces of fruit did you have today?
Everybody needs a drink. How many cups will you need?
You could pretend to be a waiter and take orders from the family for their dinner.
English
Today we are going to start with some phonics with Mrs Lambert and Sally. She has also added some more great ideas on how to use a salt tray.
Remember we are learning the letter sounds s,a,t,p,i,n.
Sally and Mrs Lambert have been on an adventure in the garden.
In this clip Mrs Lambert has been practising writing the letters in her salt tray.
You could have some fun making your own phonic cards. Cut or tear up some paper, card, or you could use a cereal box.
Then write the letters on the card.
Hide the letters around the house and then send the children on a letter hunt. You could hide the letters near objects that have the same initial sounds.

Maths with Mrs Lambert.
Today Mrs Lambert is having fun with the number 10. Today a ladybird had landed in her garden and is feeling cold as it has lost its spots.
In the link Mrs Lambert asked you to find 10 objects in your house.
She would love you to have your items ready for her for the Monday maths session.
Remember your stopping number is 10.
Once you have finished your maths today, why not sing our song of the week, Once I caught a fish alive.
Another great song with 10 in is Ten in bed. Why not have fun learning the song with your family.
Have a great time exploring the number 10.
English
Pop and Sparkle helped us plan last night what we should do today.
Pop suggested it would be a nice idea to draw some pictures and discuss how everybody felt after they had helped the whale back into the sea.
Maybe make a thank you card for the snail and the whale to send to the people that had helped them.
Now, in most cards there is a rhyme or poem, so below is a link to one of favourite authors, Micheal Rosen. Have a listen to him explain about rhyme.
Now have a go at making up your own rhymes to add to your thank you card.

Song of the week
This week,s song of the week is,
Once I caught a fish alive
1,2,3,4,5
Once I caught a fish alive,
6,7,8,9,10
Then I let it go again
Why did you let it go?
Because it bit my finger so.
Which finger did it bite?
This little finger on my right.
Click here and sing along together.
Once you have sung the songs a few times together encourage your child to sing the song alone.
Why not make your own fish and write the numbers 1 to 10 on the fish.
Mix the fish up and get your child to place the fish in the correct order.
You could then remove a fish and see if your child is able to say which number you have hidden from them.
Discuss with them where the number should be placed. e.g. will number 4 go before number 3 or after number 5?
If you are lucky enough to have paper clips and a magnet lying around at home, you could perhaps make your own fishing game.
Have fun. Don’t forget, if you can video your song or take pictures and share them with us that would be great.
Art & Music
Ocean in an egg box
This a great way to make a scene for your story.
Decorate an egg box with anything you can find. Be as creative as you can. (It doesn’t have to be an egg box, any box will do.)
Things you could use:
- egg cartons
- a range of blue paints
- small shells and pebbles
- coloured card
- tissue paper
- plastic gems
- coloured foam sheets
- glue and scissors
Please remember to take photos and share them with us.
We look forward to seeing how creative you have been.
Understanding the world
Have you ever seen some jumping pepper? Well, this static electricity experiment with balloons will do just that.
This is a really fun activity to try with different materials around the house.
You could then see which materials are static and which materials aren’t.
You could cut up tissues into fish shapes and see how many fish you can catch?
Watch this link to see some fun things you can do with a balloon.

Have a click on this link to a lovely French song to learn at home: Incy wincy spider in French.
Lyrics:
L’araignée Gypsie
Monte à la gouttière
Tiens voilà la pluie!
Gypsie tombe par terre
Mais le soleil a chassé la pluie
Wellbeing
All the children in Trotwood enjoy a meditation session every day. Try to find time in your day to have some quiet downtime with your child.
They are amazing at this!
The link will take you to a short mindfulness video.
In this episode of Cosmic Kids Zen Den It explains in a child-friendly way that we are separate from our feelings. They come and go – and we can observe them – without getting swept up by them. There’s a really clever way of remembering this – our mind is like.
